The STEP examination for Cambridge Mathematics

STEP (Sixth Term Examination Paper) is a mathematics examination administered by Cambridge Assessment for Mathematics applicants to Cambridge (and some other top UK Math programs). STEP is substantially harder than A-Level Mathematics or US Calculus AP it tests mathematical depth, creativity, and problem-solving on questions that don’t have standard solution methods.

The Cambridge Math conditional offer typically requires specific STEP grades most commonly Grade 1 in two of STEP 2 and STEP 3. Achieving these grades requires substantial preparation typically over 1-2 years.
Indian applicants for Cambridge Math need to prepare for STEP specifically. Standard Indian Class 12 Mathematics preparation does not prepare students for STEP.
